3 Signs You May Need a Filling

A satisfied smiling woman in a dental chair showing her thumb up.

Are you experiencing any tooth sensitivity when you eat or drink? Not sure if you need a dental filling? These 3 signs can help you determine if it is time to visit Dunwoody Family & Cosmetic Dentistry for an exam between your regular checkups:

Pain or Sensitivity

Pain or sensitivity when eating or drinking is a good indicator you may need a filling. If the discomfort comes from a specific tooth (or area) and is persistent, it’s best to schedule an appointment. Our dentist will perform the necessary evaluation to see what is causing the pain and develop a treatment plan to alleviate the discomfort.

Dark Spots

If you notice a dark spot on the chewing surface of your tooth, it could be the beginning of a cavity. This may also appear as a dark shadow between the teeth. If you notice discoloration while brushing, it’s best to reserve an appointment to have x-rays taken. This will allow us to see beneath the surface of your enamel to determine the cause.

Damage to an Existing Filling

Perhaps an existing filling is chipped, cracked, or maybe the whole filling has come out. You should have this type of issue repaired as soon as possible. Leaving the tooth exposed can allow bacteria to leak into the nerve of the tooth. If left untreated, this can lead to further complications that require more than just a simple filling.

When to See a Dentist
