Dentures have been around for centuries. Today, we still use modern designs for our patients in Dunwoody with missing teeth. In most cases, they still work quite well, but there may be other options available in restorative dentistry that are a better fit, such as:
If you’re only missing a single tooth, then getting an implant is the best way to go. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that we surgically place in the bone. A crown (the visible tooth area) is then attached to the implant above the gums.
A bridge is a great way to replace a tooth. But in order to be able to have a traditional bridge, you need to have at least one natural tooth behind and in front of the one that you’re trying to replace. The reason for this being, is that a bridge is a connection of crowns. It is cemented to the natural teeth via full crowns, which suspends the artificial crown over the gums between them.
An implant-supported bridge can be made if you’re missing several teeth. In this situation, we’ll place a couple of implants in the jaw to serve as the anchors for your bridge.
A partial is a removable appliance that can replace several missing teeth in a single arch. Partials typically have a metal or acrylic base with acrylic teeth attached to them. Partials have metal clasps that wrap around your existing teeth to help hold it in place.
