Root Canals

A deep tooth infection can be painful and jeopardize the health of your smile. Damaged or decayed teeth can allow infection to reach the interior canals of your teeth, affecting the nerves and causing pain. Root canal therapy can remove the infection and diseased portion of the tooth while preserving the structure of the tooth. Our team at Dunwoody Family & Cosmetic Dentistry offers gentle, effective root canal therapy as part of our general dentistry treatments to stop tooth pain and protect your oral health.

Each tooth has canals inside that contain pulp and nerve roots, the living materials of the tooth. When bacteria or decay reach this inner sanctum of the tooth, they can cause inflammation and put pressure on the nerve roots. This can be very painful and should never be ignored. If not treated, the tooth can be put at risk for loss. Root canal therapy is used to extract the pulp and nerve roots from inside the canals of the tooth. The inside of the canal is disinfected to stop the infection, then repacked with a sterilized material to protect the tooth from reinfection. In most cases, a dental crown is needed to offer additional strength to the damaged tooth after the root canal is completed.

Root Canals Offer Pain Relief for Infected Teeth!

Some people fear root canals as they associate them with dental pain. However, root canals are the best way to stop dental pain from an infected tooth. The advanced procedures we use at Dunwoody Family & Cosmetic Dentistry allow us to quickly resolve the pain and protect the infected tooth from further damage. The procedure is not painful – we use anesthesia and have sedation options available to prevent pain and discomfort during your root canal. While the tooth may be sore afterward, the nerves and source of the pain will be gone.

If you have a painful tooth, contact Dunwoody Family & Cosmetic Dentistry right away. If root canal therapy is needed, we offer exceptional care and a relaxing atmosphere for your procedure.
